(This post was last modified: 09-01-2012, 11:17 AM by Todd.)
We had a new member recently post a song, and I was wondering would a song writing forum be worth having? Not saying we couldn't just use the existing forums...but maybe allowing those able to post a music track with it. I'm not even sure about all of the variations with songs, but given that Marc is a songwriter maybe he could lend some insight when he has time.
 Really just a thought

It seems like an obviously good idea. (I don't know what I wrote the first time, but it needed a modification.)

No reason people can't use soundcloud.com or some similar and just link us up... I'm happy for people to post songs, provided they're posted AS songs and not with some excuse in later comments about it being "a song, not a poem". If there's enough call for it, we'll make a forum, but for now people are welcome to use the Miscellaneous forum and tag their posts as lyrics.

It could be worse

we do have a forum that isn't being used at the moment and mean it's like an effin morgue in there. it has the added feature of bein a forum that's hidden from prying eyes as well. we could just rename it?

I know, last time I make a forum especially at one person's request...
(well, probably not, but that won't stop me from complaining about it)

If there's enough call for it, as I said, we'll do it. Anyone who thinks it's a good idea needs to speak up.

I think it is a good idea to allow songs and lyrics, but I'm not sure it immediately deserves its own forum. When I was told last year that I could post my songs in Miscellaneous it felt fair and appropriate.
I think unless you are getting overrun with songwriters then Misc. is a great place for it.

P.S. Songwriters are not nearly as sharing as poets me thinks

Like I said, I'm not pushing for it as a separate forum necessarily, it's just a thought. I'm not sure it would catch on. Maybe it could start as something like a post we sticky in Miscellaneous about song writing and see where it goes.

the sticky sounds okay and if it takes off they could utilise the private thread. or do a poll and see what people think. (in the poll forum?)

I would be interested as someone who posted a half baked song, but for me melody dont come easy, and my input would be slow burn due to time, but as I said am very interested especially to read/listen/comment to others. I find well crafted lyrics as enticing as well crafted poetry in fact anything with words. Now I've mastered soundcloud and when I get the time I'll be at it again, constructive crits would be really helpfull and well recieved.TOMH

In my view, on the one hand, there is much to be said for a 'Song' forum, howsoever named. On the other, one must acknowledge the potential problems.

I would recommend that a task-force be set up to consider what proper steps may be taken, and, failing that, what appropriate action should follow.

In other words, in brief, I don't give a flying fuck. I do hope this is helpful.

Abu: Damn it you just took my band name and it's first single.
 Band: Flying Fuck

 Single: I don't give

Shit! Now, I'll have to rethink my concept around vampires or something.

Would it work if you had:

Band : I don't give

Single: Flying Fuck ?

I'd like to be flexible, but I have my artistic integrity to consider.
