Emptiness makes meals out of stomachs in this place;
and on the walls, old photographs
documenting dumb luck and madness
in equal measure.

Outside, a dead pigeon’s opened
like sunday service:
some flies have made a church of it.

Inside, I crawl under the bed
and begin to whet my harpoon.
-Next time I see that white whale,
he’ll be sorry.

I know it's not just me who loves shem's creativity and never knows where his mind will go next...

No, it's not just you. Shem's work is more interesting even when he says he's got writer's block than mine is writing a mile a minute. He goes way out there and still manages to stay accessible.

These are the things I love most about poetry. In the right hands it can take us to amazing places and all we have to be able to do to appreciate it is read and think.

Thank the stars that at least some of us can think Smile

Another great choice, I haven't read this one before, so thank you. Shem seldom allows lines to be wasted and this one is packed to the gunnels.

If your undies fer you've been smoking through em, don't peg em out

Great gods! Shem makes me re-examine my own reality whilst at the same time confirming it is me who is sane...I wish I was as mad as he. Great choice.
Best,

How long after picking up the brush, the first masterpiece?

The goal is not to obfuscate that which is clear, but make clear that which isn't.

Love the poem, a creation unto itself. And the best part is I don't have to critique and there's nothing I would anyway. Loretta
