Hello. I'm interested in providing what help I can with criticism, and I really want to improve my poetry. There's a girl.

That's the best (and possibly only) reason to write poetry Smile

Yo. I'm here because I finally wrote a poem that I am half-way satisfied with. Poetry isn't really my preferred form of creative writing- I prefer short stories and role-playing. I got this random inspiration last night, and wanted to share my one, very short poem. So here I am. haha.

I might show up from time to time, but it seems likely that this will be the only piece I ever submit. I'll put it in the appropriate forum shortly.

Thanks! Looks like it is going to be a minute, though. All that moderation and what not. :p

Hello! My name is adm, and here is my introduction...

I'm 38, male, from Minnesota. I'm a professional artist, and poetry has always interested me. I like reading it, but I admit I know nothing technical about poetry. I do know that I have a creative mind, and my brain is constantly churning. I hope to get valuable critique through whatever I submit, and I will do my best to critique others, albeit my poetry knowledge is weak at best.

Cheers!

Welcome newbs, glad to have you here.

Learning to critique has been a fun and interesting endeavor for me.  You'll find the site is loaded with tips for reading critically and for improving your own work.

I hope you enjoy it. Smile

Hi all,

I'm Animal Riots Activist. I'm in my mid 20s, and I'm a physicist by day and I write poetry in the day too sometimes. But mostly at night. Over the past couple of years I've gravitated away from forums, as the lack of having a face/voice/style etc to put to a poem sort of irked me, and I had a community in which I pushed myself and others to write. That community has now faded a bit (as it turns out you can get burnt out from writing poetry), so I'm back in the forum fold. From the critiques I've already done it seems like you all are pretty varied in poetic style, which is great. So I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work, and hopefully we all can influence each others work. But not too much. There is an inherent masturbatory nature in poetry, but too much circlejerkery can quickly lead to artistic stagnation.

Best,
Animal Riots

p.s. I like nothing more than to have my poems torn apart. So all you vultures, please have a field day whenever I post.

Welcome! I want to be a part of your animal riots, but we should avoid the circle orgies. Looking forward to waxing psychically with you!

I find the word "hello" a bit too much for this minimalistic piece.  And you're breaking rules just to break them, without poetic reasoning.  The proper word would have been "Hi" as stated in the title.

Welcome to PO!  I'm being silly btw...no need to be scared off before we really dig into  you!

Hi Billy,
Thanks for the feedback feedback! And no, I'm just an activist for rioting animals. There are some indelible rights that are denied to animals during most modern animal riots, and I'm just an activist to decry the denial of those rights and inform the public. Stampedes are just not what they used to be, nor locust swarms, nor butterfly migrations.

Hello Pigpen! I am a social science grad student in my early 20s that double majored in creative writing. I'm a friend of Em (aka Animal Riots Activist), and they referred me here! I was part of that fizzled out community of which they speak, and have hardly written since my last poetry class in school. However, I love reading and critiquing others' work, and it helps me find inspiration to do it myself again! I'll post a few of my older poems at first to test the waters. I hope you like my work, and I'm excited to read some great poems here!
Cheers,
Your friendly Municipal Alchemist

Jesus Christ Mr. Maps, you have so many exclamation points in this post, it could throw a party all by itself. Why not just ride caps lock? And of course welcome!!! Big Grin
