I'm a poor guy who suffers enough in solitude and gonna make some fun of it. It's just the way I like Poetry.
Fun is why I'm here too, welcome to the pen, hope you enjoy it.
Hey, Ray, nice couch, I told you to close your curtains at night.

Suffering in solitude, unfortunately, is necessary if you are to be a poet and write poetry.
Fortunately for you (and me and us), you can come here at any time and critique, be critiqued,
or just screw around (my fav). It's a great break from suffering and might even improve your
outlook on life... well, probably not: you're writing poetry after all and are basically a moody,
morose individual like the rest of us here.
Anyway, Welcome to PigPen, your brand new anti-social networking site,
Ray

Hi! I enjoy writing, mostly poems. I write some prose too. I suppose I consider myself to be on an intermediate level if that isn't thinking too highly of myself (I am not an expert). I have been writing off and on since age fourteen. Recently I started taking craft much more seriously and I am hoping to expand my writing. Anyway, this site caught my eye and I am interested in exploring more and all that good stuff that goes along with it. I am looking forward to finding out more.

Hi, Casey, welcome to the Pen. I've seen great improvement in my own skill set since joining here, I hope you have the same experience. Thank you for the critiques you've already given to others. Poke around the site, it's loaded with learning opportunities mixed with a bit of insanity. Dig in and have fun, ella

Thanks ella. That is good to hear (about the learning a lot)
I am feeling intrigued about the different levels of critiquing sections. I am pretty weak at revising and I think the serious section will be an adventure. I am not going in there quite yet though...

Once you get used to it it's amazing how satisfying a very thorough critique can be. If you are open to it it can allow you to see your own work on levels you didn't even know were there. I like to post in mild because I feel like I get the broadest span of readers and even the one pointers suit my work and help me a lot, but the serious critique forum is worthwhile and fun, when you've read it a bunch, then commented in depth yourself, you'll know when you're ready to put a piece there. Lots to be learned there in the meantime, and some fine poems to be read. And don't miss the Poetry Practice forum, an eyeopener.

I see you're a New Yorker! I'm going there for two weeks in Feb
Have you been before? If you plan museums, the Frick is one of my faves, usually a quiet retreat from the mayhem. And check music listings, pick someone you like playing a small venue, they're all over. And wear your walking shoes, Manhattan is pretty flat and much of it is a simple street grid, easy to get around, you can easily walk miles. Unless your wallet is full and you want to try the elite restaurants, there's tons of great reasonably priced food from all over the world, just check menus.

I haven't been. I haven't ever left Australia before so it's going to be quite an experience. I definitely plan museums. I'll keep the Frick in mind What is it that you like the most about it? I also want to check out a small venue somewhere, that's on the list as well. I'm definitely not loaded, so elite restaurants are out of the picture. I feel awkward in restaurants anyway, let alone an elite one.
Thanks for the advice. Have you always lived in New York?

I stayed for a while in Manhattan, and quite a bit longer in the metropolitan area
when I was in the Army. By New York, I'm assuming you mean New York, New York
(The city so nice they named it twice.) It's a wonderful place; I once spent weeks walking
ALL around it. Every five blocks is a different city; every twenty, a different world.
And contrary to myth, the people are damn wonderful.
Ray
Statistics (just because I'm compulsive):
Australia:
23.13 million people
2.97 million mi²
New York City:
8.406 million people
0.000305 mi²
Australia is 9738 times larger than New York City
and has 2.75 times more people.
New York City Metropolitan Area:
20.1 million people
0.013 million mi²
Australia is 228 times larger than the New York City Metropolitan Area
and has 15% more people.
