Anyway, this site caught my eye and I am interested in exploring more and all that good stuff that goes along with it.  I am looking forward to finding out more.

Yes, I read your crits as well. Good stuff.

And please stick around, we desperately need people like you to make up for billy.

I missed this funny comment here.  Big Grin   Thank you for the welcome.  I like your kitty in a box.  He looks like a boy I had named Houdini.

Hi, I haven't posted on a poetry forum in many years and decided to jump back in here.  I've been writing off and on since I was a kid, but I'm definitely an amateur and hope to improve.  Giving feedback and critique on others' work always makes me nervous that I'll offend someone, besides, I'm not sure I know enough about the craft to be of any benefit.  Also, my time is somewhat limited, but I will do my best.  Mcfair

Anyone who takes offence at honest, well-intended criticism (notice I did not say accurate,
well-informed, or any such thing) needs to learn better. i.e. It's their problem, not yours.

You don't have to know about the craft to be of benefit.
Writers need to know what all readers think of their stuff; not just other writers.

Part of the process of learning to write well is learning how to provide good criticism.
Why?  Because THAT is how you learn to edit your own poetry, and knowing how
to edit is 85% of good writing.

There are some great tips about how to go about writing helpful comments right here:
"New to giving critique? Please read these tips."

Welcome, hope you have fun,
Ray

Hi McFair - don't worry about offending people. As long as you're addressing the poem, not the poet, everything will be fine. As for what you know, that will increase with practise. Welcome aboard.

we're not called a workshop for nothing. Hi Mcfair; don't worry start off in novice or mild and see how you go, read feedback throughout the site and get a feel of it. like everything, the more you put in the more you get back. you may offend someone but if you do it'll usually be because they're pussies. just comment on the poetry and not the poet and you'll be fine.

Hi, I've never posted on a poetry forum before but recently have been wanting to dedicate more time to revising my drafts and seeing what they could become. I'm interested in any and all feedback because although I've been writing for a long time I rarely have shared it with anyone or reworked it. I'm looking forward to connecting with others and reading their work, even if it's just sharing my very untrained perspective/reaction! I hope I can be useful and I hope to learn a lot!!

Hi  Chandra,

I joined too recently to be offering a welcome.  Your cat is gorgeous!  Is that a Ragdoll?  I too named myself after my beloved cat Casey (he passed over the rainbow bridge some time ago) and I have other kitties in my life now.

I think I have quoted the wrong post (trying to get the hang of it lol).

I think I have it all screwed up and Ray is the one with the cat Chandra and not the poet Chandra. Oops. Anyway hi Chandra and the cat is gorgeous Ray.

Hi, Chandra. welcome to the Pen. It sounds like you are just where I was when I joined two years ago. This is a great place to dig in and indulge a love of words and poetry with like-minded people. Read, learn, have fun, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Smile
