Hi guys.
I first came here to see how my ultimately awesome poem did versus the online masses, but after reading many posts by the mods, I realize how cliche and novice ot really was, haha. Instead of losing faith in myself as a poet, however, I realized that I came to the right place to turn my novice and cliche poem into an ultimately awesome somewhat less novice and cliche masterpiece. So! I look forward to reading, learning, reviewing and discussing with you guys aboit artsy fartsy poetry and sh*t. And also to potentially improve my proofreading skills.

Well, hello. I am UselessBlueprint. Don't mind the name too much. I registered this account yesterday in hopes of improving my writing, as well as examine what people tend to write about today. I've been writing since I was in high school, where I read and studied some Latin poetry for two years. This influenced my writing style significantly. Around that time I used another poetry forum just to begin posting my writings publicly. I took a semester studying English poetry in college recently, which taught me that I do have some trouble piecing together meaning in certain (newer) styles of poetry. Adhering to conventional grammar is not a priority for me. I'd say that 60% of the time a misspelling or improper use of a word is intentional. As far as reading English poetry, my favorites are W.H. Auden, Yeats, and Maya Angelou. Regarding books, The Catcher in the Rye is my favorite. I try not to write in purely emotional context. Typically, one day is worth about 16-24 lines of thought. If it's a particularly developed piece, it can be as low as 4 lines in a day. As of now, I don't sign a name to any of my works. Aside from writing, I am currently studying electrical engineering. And that is a little bit about me.

Nope, right place, this is where you'll learn if you want to. All we need from you is a bit of considered feedback which, since you can obviously read and relate to poetry, you're well qualified to offer. Hope you stick around.

I definitely don't consider myself as a writer, and haven't touched poetry since Gr. 10 in high school, and that was only for about two weeks I believe. Now the reason I'm here is that I suddenly got some creative urges, to create a forum signature with a poem attached to it. However as I started writing the ideas and compressed it into a poem, I find myself unable to truly express it, and finding the right words for the lines. Henceforth, I decided to seek help in the online community and found this site. So please let me know if I'm in the wrong place before I embarrass myself any further. Thanks. Most of us here embarrassingly happened on spurs and wouldn't want you to be otherwise. Welcome (don't trust billy), Ray

Hello All,
I have written random poetry throughout my llife starting when I was about 10. It will be interesting to me to see what people think and what critiques there are. I am very much not a standard poetry writer and have no real for or fashion to it. I just enjoyed expressing myself through it. I also appreciate people's efforts and am looking forward to being able to provide what feedback my feeble mind can muster while I enjoy some of your work.

Hello everyone, this is Rohit (don't mind the username). I don't have any training in writing poetry, whatsoever. I was searching for a place where I could put my writings up for criticism and learn from other writers. Not a native English speaker, so I'd appreciate it if you'd correct my grammar. I really don't know if my perspective is broad enough to give fair criticism. Would love to read some poetry though!

Hi, DD and Rohit, welcome to the Pen. If you haven't critiqued yet I suggest you start in the Novice workshop. Read the important threads first, then read the poems members have put up for help. All we ask is that you be specific about what works or doesn't for you. It's pretty easy to get started, jump on in.

Hi all. I'm rather new to poetry, and my name's Maks. I generally don't like things that I'm not good at right away, so the struggle is real with poetry for me. I'm here to learn.

Ey up, greetings from Yorkshire.
This seems like a cool resource for people who like words. looking forward to reading, sharing and maybe getting some constructive feedback. I'm new to this but in between working in kids homes and as a support worker I write from time to time so this seems a decent place to hone in my skills (or find iut they don't exist) Ta, Lawrence.

Greetings,
My name is Nick. I'm from Baltimore and look forward to posting and critiquing some poems. I am, self-admittedly, a novice poet. I am more of a musician and songwriter inspired by the likes of Paul Simon and Bob Dylan. I am hoping to add depth to my lyrics by working on poetic technique! I started out writing poetry in high school creative writing and took an introductory poetry course in college. I found it pretty fun to workshop ideas and also humbling too lol. Currently, I've been reading Yeats, Seamus Heaney and Ted Kooser. See you on the forum! -Nick |
