I interpret "loosely suspended" as imperfectly suspended
which would tend to lead to falling. I guess you could
interpret 'loosely' as having the ability to flap about
a lot in the wind but never fall. Flexible steel cable
would do the trick.

My problem is with 'amnesia leaves' and 'lonely mind'.
I think amnesia leaves would lead to a forgetful mind,
not a lonely one. Of course if the amnesia caused you
to forget that you had friends and loved ones, then I
guess they could make you lonely.
