The Listener
#1
I'm perched
While you babble
Silent I remain
Trying to be stoic
Enduring a deluge of words
I gasp for breath

Endless stories
Lacking interest
So much extraneousness
I'm still perched

Ask for a bed
Get a mansion
Ask for water
Get an ocean
Ask for clothes
Get a mall

Why is this so difficult?
Maybe I'm just missing something
Get to the damn point

Some are given an inch
And take a mile
I gave you a dollar
And barely got my two cents back
Forget the bush
You're beating around the damn forest

Still perched
In this cage
With an open door
And the key in my hand
While you prate

I cope
Why?
Because of the tripwire
At my cages door
That would cause your demise

Silence is a much greater torture

I am well aware of the fact that there are cliches in this poem, but this was for fun and I don't share the common hatred towards them. So please just don't say something we both know, wasting both of our time.
