It had burned brightly for three days,
chasing drunken women and dodging lazy swats of spotted hands,
but now it had been painted over
and was entombed in a big swath of paint,
which had congealed around its body.
No one knew about it’s death or lead-based barrow,
but somebody leaned against the dusty surface of the sill,
and the crunch of veiny wings was stifled by the painter’s wintry brush.
“Play it again”, somebody said, “that Jimmy Buffet tune.

you never fail to surprise me. The twist in this goes round and round...even the barfly word is up for dual definition..I.mean, a barfly is some guy who hangs around in bars irritating people...are we metaphorically involute? It seems that you use the barfly as a guy as a fly...er...as a guy, then a fly. Hell, I just don't know.
Anyway, it is a cameo rather than a vignette in that it DOES capture a moment, holds it, and then produces a close of sorts which is acceptably jazz...you know, "...and that's jazz" BUT it is just not interesting enough. Tart it up.
Best
