Rain

I sit in the rain
and listen to melancholy songs
the clouds are dragon heads
one with a great swirling eye
one blowing smoke
a lone firefly hurries by
he must have missed the weather report
warm summer rain falls on my skin
I want it to feel like tears
instead it is liquid breath
was I gasping before?
I feel the pulse of the music against my palm
and wonder if words can go in the same way they come out,
through my fingers
I wait for an epiphany, a poem,
some release
but I only get a mosquito bite
and so call it a night.
