 what monumental disaster ensued immediately after the tracks were made that filled them in and kept them filled for the next 80 million years or so?

One scenario:
hardrosaur: look behind you! a meteorite!
carontaurus: oh no, I'm not falling for that one again. I turn around, you waddle off...say, why are these avian dinosaurs flying away?
BOOM!
