I have the notion of making new mythos, using old mythos, playing a fine and not so fine balance of personal obsessions and more universal culture.
My formula: Canons+Art Brut+ Nova,
in other words, I keep shooting, wild west-style, until what wasn't a target takes on the form of a pareidolic operating system.
Build an Ark, to allow for tension between particulars, smash Ark, throw your ass in the flood and swim, not like me, but in general.
For the heaven & hell of it.

Works for me.  Years ago I wrote a 2-part epic titled Mythopoesis Cantata.  No pareidolia, but still involving the use of old myths to create new.
This foray for you sounds like a good way to explore your own unconscious while offering something of the same for the reader.
