Impossible Angel: revised
#1
This is an old one, and my problem has always been with the third line and the mermaid line.
Would like some feedback.

Impossible angel

Beer and cigarettes
and you, your locks,
are always there in my world of drunken walks
through Barbican and Bishopsgate,
in the moonbeam shallows,
on walls suffused with poetry.

Thursday nights your longing is a sea
crossing through hours of drunkenness,
glimpsing faces in the mermaid shadows
turned not to me.

Impossible angel
that runs not to me

but on to the deep sea's silences
in the moon frothed wave that follows
a wandering loneliness
that burns not for me.
