I agree with your assessment of Anakin. Structurally he's very much a hero in the Classical sense, but Lucas is really too crap at dialogue to have properly fleshed him out---he should have hired a screenwriter for the prequels.
Scarlett was a spoiled brat, but considering the context---both a South, rightly or wrongly, seeking an identity beyond the defeated rebel, as well as the Great Depression---that was really her fatal flaw. She had to grow out of being a spoiled brat and into being a true and dutiful....Southern plantation owner, ugh, but still.
As for Michael, folding his family into just an extension of himself is partly his flaw, hence his being caught off guard when Kay announced her abortion, but it also does a disservice to the characterization of the family during most of Part I, when Michael barely played a part. Then Part III rounds his story off---"just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in"---turning him into a full, and fully American, cultural hero.
Of course both those examples started out as literature, defeating my original cinephile point xD
