OI wonder what you find in Milton so admirable?
Book 8 is full of geocentric nonsense and reads like a tiresome bombastic lecture ghost written for RFK Jr
He was writing 120 years after Copernicus, 30 after Kepler, 20 after Galileo, and only 10 years before Newton published his Principia. Clearly, he wasn’t particularly well educated and belonged in the ranks of religious fools like Martin Luther.
Shakespeare wasn’t a man of science either, but didn’t pretend to be a teacher of God’s ways to men and merely wrote endlessly entertaining plays that continue to delight
The first two books of PL are marvellous, but nothing else that Milton wrote - including his two or three most famous sonnets - have survived the test of time except where it has been forced down people’s throats by 19th century empire builders.
