I don't think it's feminists who say you have to hold a door open for women... in fact they're the ones who hate it. That said you're right, there really is a double standard out there. It stems from the fact that, as we were discussing, men and women are regarded as "different" and not really "equal". So for the most part, society is more protective of women (it has a lot to with women's roles as mothers and childbearers, thus the "save the women and children first" attitude). But the flipside is that society sees men as more capable (thus justifying the ceiling on women's wages as compared to men's). It's an awkward situation.

i think the scientists talking on a molecular level and smaller could be right. we may be, but where it counts, out in the world we're the same with different attributes. we'll hopefully have a long time sharing each others company before evolving into a self replicating life form
