Surrogacy
#1

after hearing about eltons new child, fathered by his partner to a surrogate mum i thought way to go. the partner is 48 yrs old and will prob live through the child.s adolescent years and longer. elton probably will not. that said i think the same is true of many hetero couples and i personally feel they like everyone deserve happiness. he was told no when he tried to adopt on account of his age which is fair as hetero couples often have to face the age criteria in order to adopt as well. that said it was more than obvious that they were disallowed because of their sexual preferences. with surrogacy no one can say they took a child that should go to a hetero couple (thats an arguement thats already been discussed) so leaving aside the gay couple thing, the question is this.

should surrogacy be legal? (posts that mention gays as an arguement for or agianst surrogacy will become sewage)

we can presume rightly or wrongly that the surrogate mother was paid for her work. if so isn't that the same as prostitution and thereby a crime?
extended isn't also a bit like child trafficking? i think surrogate mums serve a purpose, specially for those where one of the partners is unable to have children for one reason or another. i'm sure the law states that only costs can be given to the surrogate but i'm sure in most cases money changes hands as well. i have no problem with that, and believe that elton and partner didn't commit any crime. nor for me did the mum.

but, they're always a but; some would use the arguments i mentioned earlier that it's child trafficking or even a form of prostitution. then we have the, i want my baby back syndrome! the woman decides she wants to keep the child further down the line. if that happens what rights if any does she have, what rights does the couple have.?
