I deleted my facebook account months ago and got rid of all the hangers on who had added me just to collect friends, then found I was amazingly good value and wouldn't sod off
Of course, I'm far too polite to just tell them to go, so I faked my death... well, in cyber terms, obviously. Now I have a tiny little account with a fake name and photo, so I'm not tremendously worried about facebook's privacy invasions -- but it does bother me that you have to opt in to greater privacy rather than it being a default setting that you can alter to make yourself more public.
