thanks.
while i don't agree with ddos attacks i do find it has a certain sense of irony i nearly deleted this post. certain people could use when pissed on the site that they have a disagreement with but i had second thoughts

and can't the same app be used anywhere on anyones site in order to bring it down.

i thought botnets could be created fairly easily.
i think a lot of people will take part just for the fun of it. a lot of pirates will take part out of frustration. and the qwizies and warlords of the world will take part just to fuck someone over. i'm not sure it's right but untill another way comes up i can't really condemn anyone.

It's an asshat move by a bunch of kids and adults behaving like kids. Temporarily shutting down the RIAA website is not going to make them change their minds or drive them out of business. It's simply handing them another stick they can use to beat us with in perpetuity. "Look, Legislator, at how out of control and dangerous pirates are. They directly attack legitimate businesses, openly flouting the law in the belief that they're untouchable. We need much stronger laws to enable us to shut these guys down." The fine distinction that these attacks are not orchestrated or endorsed by TPB will be conveniently overlooked.

so going by what TS says, it could in theory even be a ploy to stain pirates even further. i not saying it is but just mentioning it.
i agree that often some of the shit people pull in the name of good, only causes more harm. i noticed the tpb logo being used. it will be overlooked of course the tpb didn't actually put it there. i suppose in a way this could be the starting point of what we'll come to know as internet terrorism.

i was,
think how easy it would be to bring down really small sites ![]() i'm sure they'll have groups within groups. all it takes is for some cry baby like qwizzy to say right guys i heard this so and so helps the riaa lets blitz the bastard. etc
09-20-2010, 02:52 PM
i think my isp is playing up cos i can't see the images.
i'm sure someone will come up with a counter measure. if they don't, pretty soon sites will be falling like flies. (dropping )

Unfortunately, there's no need for a conspiracy, there are more than enough idiots on the internet for them to have come up with the idea themselves. And the coding is very very simple. and for some, exciting lol. qwizie will be wetting his pants if he gets this. one of the things that makes this kind of crap work, is the need for people to to be part of something.

Exactly.

which kinda proves my point

Things That Make You Go Hmmm...how does someone become a "head member" in a group of anonymous individuals who don't report to anyone?

their self importance often belies reality
![]() what are the counter measures if any?
09-21-2010, 08:54 AM
so the person who comes up with a viable counter measure could make big bucks

what about probability. a program that works out the probability of any given isp being a thread. a more advanced form of spamming. say all of a sudden theres a surge over a 5 min period of unknown ip address. a program that would say no entry, except to registered ip numers or ip numbers that have a registered name?
while it would stop new people for seeing the site members would still be able to get into it.

Velvet is right. You can't block these sorts of attacks at source because there are so many sources spread all around the world and they're constantly being replaced as someone powers down and someone else powers up.
So you can only block them at the target. That means you need a gatekeeper of some sort to allow "good" traffic through and block "bad" traffic. But the bad guys can always scale up the volume of traffic so that the path leading up to the gate is permanently full--preventing most if not all "good" traffic even reaching it.
