This is a good meter to comment on protest songs. Your song is a paradox or something though because a protest that protests protests is negating the act of protest (possibly). I guess that's why the title might claim to protest songs in general.

Yeah, this thing was pretty convoluted (not in a good way), but it made me smile when I wrote it.

I like how the poem rhymes, and is similar to a song in a sense. Like it is, in fact, a protest song. I also like how the person is never identified. The phrase "just never toe the line" particularly pleases me.

I almost feel as if this poem should be sung instead of stated. It's difficult to understand the meaning. After some thinking, I have formed a hypothesis. I think it means in order to stop, return with equal valor.
