How long after picking up the brush, the first masterpiece?
The goal is not to obfuscate that which is clear, but make clear that which isn't.

Holy cadawallader! This is a little grave...even for you. First person but never mistake character for author. So how the hell are you, old bean!
OK...on to it. Terse verse and no mistake. Some interesting counterpoints expressed by your "fictional" ( you ARE fictional, aren't you?) character. Not to dive to deeply, but religion(s) is (are) often is adequately described by it's(their) one common parameter...belief. Counterpoint to belief? Truth. So counterpoint one.
Counterpoint two. Truth destroys deception....hmmm. Interesting hypothesis though the addage   "in myself" makes a paradox. If truth "destroys" deception in "myself" then "myself" is already deceived and so "belief" is debunked by the statement. Put another way " I am deceived by belief therefore I suspect that my belief is a false belief and is untrue...but if it is untrue then then I do not believe it is false. Therefore it is true." Harrumph. I think that this has been philosophically done to death. Who was it now....?
Best,
your cerebral counterpoint,
tectak
PS.  Some punctuation end of L1 is essential but inconsequential.( Epimenides loses to Godel. I like the illogical conclusion which makes computers crash...or burst in to flames in cheap Sci=fi movies)

Tom, the truth comes from poetry, not the speaker.
Also poetry is god. God is truth. I use the truth found in poetry to overcome self-deception. I was in no way attempting to fix a broken arm with a broken arm.

There seems something fishy about your words, still I will take it as a compliment. Thanks for reading.

Hey Dale, I was looking at this a few hours ago and wondering if "faith" might not be more real than "religion" to the speaker. After reading Tec's thoughts I thought I might at least let you think about it.
 my faith is in poetry
 ...
 ...

You've already called poetry God in the title so I wonder that the first line actually says - my religion is God. Also, uppercase would be a little cheeky for "Poetry" haha. But maybe a little over the top.

Always grateful for a latin lesson.

 Hi dale,
Circular dependent argument. You say poetry is God but who says you are right? Why, you do, of course..but you may  be suffering from self deception. No, you say because poetry annihilates self deception therefore you must be correct. Ipso facto, poetry is God.
Let's try it with turtles. Turtles are Gods. Who says so? You do....but that may be self-deception.No, because turtles annihilate self deception so it must be true and turtles are Gods.
Everyone's a winner. It even works with whisky.
 Best,
tectak (move to discussion unless too late?)

This is good, in its simplicity, because it throws out some questions which may have different answers, depending on the reader like:
"what is truth?"
  "What is religion?"

Yes Grace, thank you. It does not try and prove anything.

 Tom,

Circular dependent argument my ass. I am relating my experience, this is not being put up as a syllogism. My experience is that I find truth in poetry and over a long period of time it has help me overcome some of my less desirable traits. Anybody who has known me for a long time will verify that. So there is also external verification.

Is that a "no" to moving to discussion, then? Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. True.
Shit, that was shallow even for me. Am I holding serve? I've forgotten who served first.
