thirty birthdays in a row—
thirty freddy krueger smiles,
thirty dirty girls, to go!

vodka toniced broken sluts,
walking to the bar on crutches—

This April I am counting
all the things I neglected last April
when I let spring and half of summer
slip away until nothing was worthwhile.
The boat is in the water
even though its carb is in the shop,
the tree guy who is willing to climb
the hundred footer whose dead limbs
hang over the house has been found.
I'm almost done with Mom's chores
that were I missed last year with my own.
Last April milo counted
the poems I didn't write.
This year I stopped counting.
But next week I will creep the shoreline
in the moonlight and write the one about peeping
with the crickets and frogs.

really enjoyed the punk of the poem shem like the gritty sounds, oh and I quite liked the hurdy gurdy of Freedy krueger its sounds like Jamie Lee Kurtis on the train in Trading Places..made me smile

aw, thanks. yeah, the freedy thing, i didn't hear it like that. it is pretty funny. em, trouble is, if i were to leave it, it just looks like a spelling mistake [which it was]. if only there were a way to indicate intention behind the misspelling i would gladly keep it. having said that, i wrote this in about three minutes while slightly tipsy, so i am not sure how invested i am in it. but any suggestion is welcome.

Sounds like April is a crazy month for the speaker. Threesomes, spiders, hell, dirty girls and Freddy Kreuger. That is a lot for one month! Honestly I am not sure I get this poem at all.. But maybe it doesn't matter and no one is supposed to get it.
