The first 3 lines have been going around in my head for days, so had to get them out. 
I'm not a big fan of short lines, but I think they're ok for this one...or are they?

After death

After death

we will be

like birds on red maple trees

perched above  

the greening valley's breath.

Burst into

remembered song

that journeying the seven seas

we heard, and hoped

to sing one day

like birds.
