The cloying aroma

Had a little trouble with "cloying" and "in" - they create an ambiance different from what I remember, thinking of turkey and a tight oven.  But their unexpectedness makes the point that your (or this) home is different; perhaps it features ham gridded with cloves, a perfectly plausible alternative.
