The 2020 fireworks were the best ever. I was surrounded on all sides by every person in the area shooting off the big main event fireworks for over an hour. A bush caught on fire and I got an ash in my eye that didn't do any harm.

This year, the news is about men and children blowing their arms off, people getting shot and environmentalists finding evidence that the bangs of fireworks turn butterflies autistic and cause chipmucks to miscarriage.
I've never found fireworks interesting, so I don't care.

Halloween has been banned here for the last six years. There was no reason for it to be banned. This year, there'll probably be a reason.
Why do people never wear masks and sneak around real lowkey killing people in the dark like in the movies? Maybe humming a themesong.
A knife and a slow gait could probably tally up a larger body count of an unexpecting weeknight in residentia than people with their guns and ideas and months of planning.

Because it's not actually about killing (the same way rape isn't actually about sex) - it's about "look me!" and "go away!" in some personal but perversely stereotyped mix.  One every three or four years is plenty for a true serial killer.

See, for example, Mr. Crimo III's transparent gestures toward disguise.  And that he looks, fer Chrisake, as if he's had himself surgically altered to resemble a Guy Fawkes mask.

I was a bit confused by "(Second Amendment)" in the title unless they are actually firing guns.

A bit far-fetched, perhaps:
we (Americans) revel in our independence as well as our gun rights - both hard-won and not maintained without difficulty - but just acting wild and shooting them off unnecessarily ("promiscuously," as Sean Connery so beautifully put it in "The Wind and the Lion") disrespects those efforts.  Just like my neighbors who, in the present jurisdiction which permits unlimited fireworks  for individual use, abuse that liberty.  Or so it seems to me.

Yeah, that's the kind of shooting (and fireworks) I'm talking about.  People are aggressively stupid.
