Interesting progression (and a nice poem, too):  the first line/title foreboding, but the mid-verses gently drift away from that mood.  Then the implication  comes back on, still not too heavy, but the reader realizes that only the song is not lost... something, or someone, else has been.  Also a smooth arrangement of near-rhymes.
