I dined on funny mushrooms, succulent little buttons,
 Swimming in gold butter
 smiling from my plate.

 Tenderly I tested
 with a discerning palate,
 around my tongue they rolled
 juices dripping down my face.

 Delightful little fungi,
 I savored every morsel,
 then a slice of apricot
 became anatomy.

 Enchanted by the wonder,
 those lips a rosy glow,
 those little magic mushrooms
 took me on a trip.

I like that you anthropomorphism the mushrooms in line 3 and 4. It's a good image and nice foreshadowing.

I love your descriptions of the subject in this poem. And the witty word choices. It made me smile

Thank you Todd, TOMH, and Volaticus, hope you enjoyed, I don't do funny mushrooms, it's just a poem,

Hi Cloudy, glad you enjoyed this, I did feel like I was tripping
when I had to dissect that frog in biology.

This poem makes me hungry, which I think is a testament to its skill I love the last two lines of verse three; they're very clever and crisp, just like those mushrooms, no doubt

You have mixed together Flammulina velutipes which looks like an egg yoke on your plate but which tastes and smells of apricot (some say) and Psilocybe semilanceata which prevents you from distinguising between a mushroom and your own left foot, but in colour (everyone says. Including me) .
Welcome back. What a laugh!

I can vouchsafe my thoughts on this through direct experience. F.velutipes (aka Velvet Shank) is an excellent comestible. It is sweet enough to be put in fruit salads...but heart's suggestion is better. P.semilanceata is illegal to pick, process or be "in possession of"in GB, so as you can imagine it is widely picked, processed and consumed. On a humorously serious note, I would only suggest that if we are intending partying out on P. semilaceata (aka magic mushrooms) we should ask rowens to attend to us when we are euphorically peaking. Serge would be of no use whatsoever. You will need a sombre balance to offset your deep joy.

Hi Heslopian, Volaticus , and News, thanks for reading, I love mushrooms. I am not into the magic kind, I might be if I tried them but that's unlikely. Thanks for the heads up News! my best,
