Hi!

Consider this an advantage. You're in the company
of 95% of the truly great poets. They're your best source
of education (i.e. read, read, read).  This reading, of course,
includes the material ellajam mention above.

But where (if you elect to 'read, read, read') can you find stuff to read?
Use these threads to find some poems you like and google on the poet's name for more:

I'm taking everyone's advice and do appreciate the warm welcome. I've been skimming through the different threads and I've read up on the basic rules of the forum since I first introduced myself. I'm much more aware of how things work. I must say, this whole forum thing is new to me as well as making my words public (rambling and repeating myself) so I'm extremely reluctant on critiquing just because I feel I'm not worthy, but I'll warm up. Promise.

You're the reader! Of course your response is important. Try to figure out what you like or what bothers you about a poem and state specifically what that is. Like anything else, once you understand the concept learning by doing is best.

Again, welcome. Smile

Hello all. My name is Alex, and I've been actively writing bad poetry for a year or so now. I figure it's time to finally start improving in a serious way, so here I am!

Looking forward to working with all the lovely people here. I've already read quite a few of the poems posted here and their criticisms, and I think I've finally found a place I would like to call home.

You've come to the right place, but you've got some catching up to do.
Many of us have been writing bad poetry for 5, 10, 20... years.

Hi,

I'm completely new in writing poetry. I just found it the best way to vent emotions when they build up.

Writing 5 reviews is really a lot of job for newbies!

Welcome twinked. Five isn't very much considering you'll get at least a few on your own when you post, and considering that it makes you a full member of this fine site that only asks that you give a bit more than you receive.

You're doing a good job on yours, your efforts are appreciated.

Hope you have fun here, ella. Smile

Hello Everyone. Paint with words here, I'd rather not use my actual name.

Now when I was younger I used to write all the time. Not just poetry but anything at all really. Admittedly I would much rather write stories and scripts rather than just short poems especially since most of mine are free verse. Unfortunately depression hit me in life and in time I had hit what felt like a permanent writers block. it's been years since I've written anything at all and I'm going to be honest, I'm not very confident at all. I just finished writing something and I'm going to be honest. I really hate it. Like honestly I loathe it, but I wanted feedback because I'm trying to get back into the writers game(assuming I deserve to be in it at all really). So i tend to hate pretty much everything I have ever written and so I keep going till the day I make something others like and I like too. Nice to meet all of ya.

Now that I'm here I suppose it's best to ask..... How exactly do I start a thread here? I'm confused even after reading the rules and guidelines.

Welcome, Paint with words.  The Pig Pen is based on the idea that members give more than they receive, in order to contribute to a genuine workshop atmosphere rather than a showcase site.  We ask that you comment on at least five poems in the main critique forums (Novice, Mild and Serious) before posting a thread in those areas; however, until then you are able to post in the Newly Registered Forum.  Just select the "Post Thread" button.

Thank you Leanne. I've already commented on one poem.

Welcome to all that I've missed greeting. I think I may hold the record because I've been writing bad poetry for 38 years (started when I was 8) so you all have catching up to do.

And I run fast...and there are tripwires.
