Purely speculative, and too much to explain. Has to do with the origin of the Hebrew language, especially the right to left aspect. Scrolls were generally read from bottom to top. As there is some tenuous connection to Elam regarding Abram. Of course Hebrew is obviously related to Akkadian, as both are Semitic languages, but has elements that are obviously not descended from Akkadian. As no one really knows from where the characteristics came I have nominate Elam linear script, as it along with linear A Greek script has yet to be translated. Some speculate that the right to left characteristic comes from writing in stone, but Abram was far more sophisticated than that and knew about writing in clay. either though would have been to heavy for a nomadic people. I think Moses wrote the ten commandants in stone because they were important, not because Hebrew generally wrote in stone. Once again, stone is too heavy to carry around except for very important things like the ten commandants which were carried in the Ark of the Covenant. I suspect Abram and certainly Moses knew about writing on lamb skin, and Moses also knew about papyrus. Necessity is the mother of invention after all.
People will say that the Hebrews did not know how to write until Moses. Yet Abram would have had to have known at least two forms of writing if not three when he left Ur, as he was not a poor man, and must have been well educated. It makes no sense that he gave up writing simply because he leaves Sumer. Well that is much too long an explanation and much to small of an explanation.

ps sorry that this is a bit incoherent, but I am in a rush at the moment.

How long after picking up the brush, the first masterpiece?
The goal is not to obfuscate that which is clear, but make clear that which isn't.
