a trilinea
#1
flowers on a grave

time holds its breath-
withered roses scattered on stone
outlasting death

*the trilinea is a short poem similar to haiku, written in a single three line stanza. where the haiku consists of 17 syllables in three unrhymed lines 5-7-5, the trilinea consists of three lines (with first and third lines rhyming), but with a syllable count of 16, in the format of 4-8-4.

unlike haiku, the trilinea does not necessarily need to be related to nature or the seasons, but it does have one odd requirement: the word "rose" or "roses" must be included in the poem. rose can be a color, an action, a flower, or a name.

billy, ella...nice contributions. i like short forms like this because they're a good exercise in achieving complexity through simplicity, much like haiku. a lot can be said of word economy: a little goes a long way. thanks for playing along.
