Hello all,
I'm a beginning lyricist straddling the line between lyrics and poetry. I'm looking to polish the craft and develop more variety. I look forward to learning with everyone.

Hi Todd,
Thank you for the welcome. I hope so, too. It feels like I'm writing in an echo chamber. I started an object writing group on Facebook for creative purposes, but can't find enough participants to make it engaging. So I find myself here looking for a new, more sociable sounding board. I have much to learn about the poetic form itself, and often don't know whether I'm writing that or lyrics. What I most often end up doing is expanding what's written to conform to a formal song structure. Sometimes I leave it raw and call it singer/songwriter style.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the site. I read and write a lot of poetry but have never shown it to anyone - so I thought this site would be a good place to share. I look forward to reading all of your work! Hope I can learn about my own writing and contribute to yours.

Hi there, everyone!
I'm new to the site and just generally new to poetry.
I've picked up poetry as a means to cope with my depression. Thankfully, though, as the summer had appeared, it seemed to have thawed my generally negative outlook on life.
Poetry certainly played a huge role. Writing down what was in my head made sure that bitter feelings didn't cloud me. Instead of being in my head, they were now on paper.
While this sounds grim, i thought it was worthwhile sharing why i picked up poetry with you guys.
I'm currently working on a novel (I'll definitely share some bits!), but I find poetry to be alot less taxing and even quite relaxing. I've never thought about sharing it and i thought this would be a good place for that.
I hope that i can be a healthy addition to this communty!

Hi Cat, welcome. Although of course a writer's block is a laughing matter. Some of the funniest poems I've ever read have been written because the poet couldn't think of anything else to write.
Everything is a laughing matter. This is the reason we're not all serial killers.

Hi all,
Just wanted to say I'm really excited to use this site - I've been searching for a 'proper' poetry critique forum for a while!
Hope everyone's having an okay day.

Hey there Joe! Every day is an okay day, except for the okelydokely days. We aren't proper, but we do try to do poetry properly. Welcome to your new home.

Hi everyone!
I'm new here and really excited to read some new stuff and hopefully share some of mine.
I've been writing for quite some time already, but only recently got into poetry and this sounds like the right place for inspiration and critique

Hello, Raccoon! Who says poetry has to be serious?

"Everyone" ? Be careful, there are some of us here who seek to de-learn you.
That said... almost every way, if you squint your eyes just right, is fun.
Welcome!

But either way, one thing's clear: This place needs more CATS!

Joe Okay days don't produce poetry; so, yes, I'm having an OK day.
Welcome!

Hey guys! I joined this forum so I could improve in the poetry department for a class I'm taking once the summers over. Very excited to do this. I'm pretty new to poetry, but don't be afraid to be as harsh on my work as you would be your own. Can't wait to see what's in store.
