Hi LaGitana, welcome to the forums. Nice to see some of your poetry Smile
PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

Okay folks - let me start off by saying "THANK YOU"! I have been down with a three day migraine and although I have peeked in now and then, I have not been in any condition to appreciate your excellent critique. Let me follow up by explaining two things: 1: you all are much more "edjumacated" than I am about all this writing and literary stuff... (stop blustering about about it, you are... I'm not quite sure I quite get all that you refer to in your critiques but I'll muck through them and take them to heart cause I never get serious critique almost ever...) 2: it has always been that when I write, the words hit me, I write them (sometimes within minutes, sometimes within not much more than that and I dont even remember writing them) I don't rewrite, I don't hardly ever discard them and until recently, like the past few years, i didnt change my style. it was the influence of a few people that helped me grow from the newbie scared scribller that I started out as in 2004 (or actually 20 some years ago) to the sometimes unsure insecure scribbler cum poet that i am now - a brilliant irish poet/visionary who mentored me (the only one to ever critique me honestly), an established sound engineer/writer/musician who taught me to play a word association game and write tandem haiku when the words had all but deserted me for a very long time (those two exercises changed my writing style drastically) and lastly a british poet who claimed he wasnt a poet but an observational writer taught me to just believe in myself and to write about what i see around me and how it affects what i feel rather than to just write about what i feel.... and he introduced me to Laurie Lee's writing.... unfortunately, i have lost two of the three this past year and am struggling...

SO, i will take your critique to heart and most likely use your suggestions unless they affect the integrity of my poetry as I felt that I wrote it... I will most likely explain why, but maybe not.

Once again, thank you.

LaGitana

You're most welcome Smile As for being more edjumacated, you want to know how most of us get to sound that way? Practising on unsuspecting victims like yourself! Honestly, all the book learning and professorial panel poetry is nowhere near as valuable as just kicking it around with a group of moderately loony people who love poems.

Any editing suggestions are always only suggestions, not commands -- nobody knows where you want your poem to be except you. Don't feel you have to explain, but we do love a discussion about nits and picks because... well, moderately loony remember? And a funny thing happens occasionally -- when you think a suggestion is completely wrong and then you start discussing it, turns out it's actually quite a good idea and will take your poem in a much more interesting direction. Not saying that's what everything we say is going to do, but I know from personal experience that sometimes the unlikeliest ideas (from the unlikeliest sources!) turn out to make a really great difference.

Anyway, it's good to have you chatting away to us, it makes us feel loved Smile

well hello there Wink

we don't worry about education here or the lack of it. and the poet always has the last word. all we hope for is that the recipient
thinks (fairly seriously) about the feedback given. we also love it when they join in and give some feedback of their own. if you read some of the posts in the sewer or in the discussion boards,i think you'll find most of us squandered what education we could have had,
well i did anyway, post when you can and don't worry if you can't; for what ever reason. we'll understand. Wink

now get posting Angry Hysterical

Hey! I love having the last word, especially when it doesn't taste like dirty foot! Thanks for the warm welcome y'all..... I have a post to put up that my sister sent to me for my take... Of course it was in .jpg form and I can't get that up on here so it will lose some of it's classiness but I'm gonna figure out where to put it and hope y'all will throw in your two pence...

Having just discovered this post, I'm afraid this reply may make me appear dilatory. I think we have moved past the can-we-shorten-your-name phase! I just hated to leave this welcome unanswered! Thanks for having me.
