TODDLER'S JOY

it's those pesky baptist virtues again,
turning every span of fun --
the crackle crash of crystal dish,
the spilling of the rice and fish --
into some catastrophe,

all my roofie contemplations
and ritual masturbations
becoming some sort of hook
to the dark side, to the pagan side --

yet is it really so dark at the surface?
