i've been thinking of allowing members to join automatically in order to get some fresh blood in. what do any of the members think, yay or nay. mods can answer here as well as it'll probably mean a bit more work for you lot.

I think it’ll helpDoesn’t matter if there are some vanity posters, better to get some traffic in
I have been pretty busy at work and haven’t been able to contribute as much as I’d have liked. Same would go for some of the others, surely. Need more hands

Unless there's another requirement of which I'm not aware, the only restriction is three non-trivial critiques before posting own work.  My take is, might be worthwhile to relax that requirement and see what happens... but leave at least a ghost of selectivity, perhaps the one-per-day limit (extended to all forums, not just crit forums?) and, say, that a new member's first two own-work submissions cannot be in Intensive/Serious Workshopping.  Easy enough to just move them to Moderate if any newbies transgress that.

the requirement at present is they have to activate within 24 hrs. i'm proposing letting them in as they sign up

and we will move poetry around if doing so is warranted. we'll still expect them to to give feedback first though.

So, in essence, the board is no longer effectively requiring that a newbie already has something "in the can" to post, or something on the ball to crit, when registering.  (Or be sufficiently fired up to create something of either crit or poetry within 24 hours.)

Wasn't aware of that requirement, but it makes (made) sense as an anti-bot measure.  If that's no longer a problem, including DOS attacks, then no reason to enforce it.

no that's not it. at present if they don't activate within twenty four hours we wipe them off the board as not interested. i'm expounding letting them join as they register and removing them if they're just here to vanity post without giving feedback elsewhere. my point being; if we get them through the door we may get a few keepers in the process. the rules will not change, just how people are admitted (02-26-2019, 11:34 PM)dukealien Wrote:   (02-26-2019, 01:16 PM)billy Wrote:  and we will move poetry around if doing so is warranted.  we'll still expect them to to give feedback first though. So, in essence, the board is no longer effectively requiring that a newbie already has something "in the can" to post, or something on the ball to crit, when registering.  (Or be sufficiently fired up to create something of either crit or poetry within 24 hours.)

I think it's worth trying.

milo always said that what initially drew him to the site was being able to join in right away, he never liked the 3 crit entry even though open made more mod work. We survived it before, so why not?

okay guys and gals, i never got the chance to do it yesterday. i'll start doing it now. i put a WILL ALL MEMBERS PLEASE GIVE FEEDBACK BEFORE POSTING A POEM IN ANY OF THE MAIN WORKSHOPS. up on all the pages now i'll remove the three to post rule but leave a "post a piece of feedback before posting a poem" i'll also sort out instant membership. it's worth a try. thanks for the input guys.
