		(with apologies to the Beatles)
I read the news to day oh boy,
the US still had not won the war,
 16 Afghans now lie dead,
each one a hole inside their head,
 the Sargent flew away,
before the people had their say
They all want the death penalty,
I must say that I too agree!
 The bastard sh~-u~l~d be~e~e fri~e~e~d,
I'd love to turn him on!

Beatles' "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" would work as well.
 Head injuries all around!

 *"...
 Bang! Bang! Maxwell's silver hammer
 Came down upon her head.
 Clang! Clang! Maxwell's silver hammer
Made sure that She was dead.

We all know that will never happen though, Dale, that's the real tragedy here. Only one side in a war can be unutterably evil, the other side suffers stress and breakdowns.

It could be worse

Considering the list of wonderful things he did prior to joining the military, not to mentioning murdering 16 people in cold blood, he should be handed over to the Afghans to do with as will, which would still be too good for the psychopath. Unfortunately, that will not happen. I can only hope that they fry him here. That guy deserves no protection from the USA!

i'm not sure it would help if they let the afghan's try him, though i agree they should.if found guilty they could fry him, and let the Afghan president pull the plug. as well as inviting the families of the dead over to witness the act.
it would show that the usa while while strong in their commitment to protect their own (give a fair trial), were understanding enough to allow the afghans some kind of closure (not that there would be any) i think if they did something like that, some good could come from such a heinous act
sorry Dale i just followed on the end of the posts, i though it were in gen discussion. i think the sentiment of the poem is well sung.

Such behaviour is not normal. I think there is a very strong probability that the man is suffering mental break-down, and that he might be held to be incapable of standing trial, for that reason. Were he to stand trial, he could plead that as a mitigating circumstance. The Afghan judicial system, apart from being influenced by financial, political and popular pressure, is inherently flawed: it does not administer a civilised system of law, and no country signed up to Human Rights could extradite a person to it. Therefore, as terrible as this episode was, it would be wrong to throw this man to the lions. Hard cases make bad law.

you're right of course, other than that, americans who commit crimes abroad are immune anyway, ever heard of an american being extradited to another country to stand trial?

while they may think he was under stress, i doubt the court martial will bring in a no guilty verdict, and any mitigating circumstances such as too much pressure won't influence the sentence, which should be death but will probably end up as life without parole.

Fixing A Hole by the beatles

I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in
And stops my mind from wandering
 Where will it go
I'm filling the cracks that ran through the door
And kept my mind from wandering
 Where will it go
And it really doesn't matter if I'm wrong
 I'm right
 Where I belong I'm right
 Where I belong.
See the people standing there who disagree and never win
And wonder why they don't get in my door.
I'm painting my room in the colourful way
And when my mind is wandering
 There I will go.
And it really doesn't matter if
 I'm wrong I'm right
 Where I belong I'm right
 Where I belong.
Silly people run around they worry me
And never ask me why they don't get past my door.
I'm taking the time for a number of things
 That weren't important yesterday
 And I still go.
I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in
And stops my mind from wandering
 Where it will go.

I'm ignoring a land where the bombs are dropped and stop the people from wandering,
 watch their lives go.

Their shooting guns from behind the door,
it keeps the people from wondering,
 where they can go.

And it really doesn't matter if I'm wrong I'm right,
 because might makes right,
 because I'm strong.

Silly people run around with eyes wide,
 can't stay alive,
they all die just like before.

I won't take the time to think of them,
cause they're not important to me today.
 and they'll all go.

and stop the people from wandering.....

Vicious, poignant, funny. A rare combination. Though I'm not sure Paul McCartney would be happy about those soldiers being fried. So long as no-one eats them afterwards.

Amusing, but now I want a poem titled:

"Dead U.S. soldiers just wanted an afghan"
