God Is Evil

which is quite zen

he's everything so why can't he be perectly good and perfectly evil.

the sun isn't god, it's an object. god on the other hand can be anything and everything all at the same time, he's the original all powerful Schroedinger cat with the ability to make you see what he wants you to see, is he good is he evil.

If God could be evil, then he would not be God. God cannot both be God AND not God. Asking that sort of question is like saying "How many months are there in the color blue?" nonsense question, so how do you expect a logical answer? Just my thoughts on the matter.

why can't god be an evil god?

and if the stories about him are to be believed he actually was god and not god at the same time, something only a god could do Wink

why does a god have to good?

Since we define what god is, he's whatever we say.
If he's all-knowing, all-powerful, the creator of everything, etc.,
then everything is god-stuff, which has to be good since it's better than nothing.
If he's just a local deity, then we're better situated to criticize (once we've devised a god-shelter).

so let's get this straight, a god has to be good
a god can't be an evil god?

Given the empirical evidence (wars, famine, etc) then maybe we could at least assume that IF god is purely good then there is another comparative force in the universe that is evil (which gos to show why we had to invent the concept of the devil in tandem with that of god).
PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

my point is still being missed. or my question is.

why can't god be evil? he's god for crap sake, why would he tell us he's evil. to do so wouldn't be at all evil. what would be evil would be to make us all believe he's a kind and caring god (though certain plagues and calamities would seem to negate the fact)
why must god be a non evil god? because we say so?

You're not telling us who you mean by 'god'. If you mean a universal deity who created everything, then whatever he's created is 'good', since he made the rules. If you mean a local deity whose work we can compare with another's, then we can criticize ('evil' is a criticism).

any god, the god in question, jesus, the univerals one.

how do would we know the machinations of god?
since he made the rules how do we know he didn't think "i know today i'll be evil and create the universe. then i'll populate it with jumped little gobshites, then i'll be evil and promise them heaven. really they'll only live for a very short while before decomposing into compost.; i let them breed till they have to eat themselves in order to survive and the silly little bastards will still believe i'm good. i wonder how bad i can make their lives before they see me for what i am"

I don't think Jesus created the universe. Which god promised us heaven? Your ideas are pretty confused.

jesus promised us heaven. and his dad created the stars in the firmament
jesus and god were two parts of a triumvirate. they were in fact the same entity with a triple personality disorder.

it's why jesus is called god the son. and god is called god the father imagine it like a coin with three sides Wink

Quote:Matthew 6:19-21
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

This discussion is confusing from the get-go because we're coming in with different ideas about god and the relationship of that concept with morality. As an all-powerful being, does that necessarily mean that god handed down our morality to us? Or is good/evil really an arbitrary man-made value judgment that we ascribe to god, whoever or whatever he may be.

Radlos argued that since god made the universe, then he made the rules, and it follows that "His rules= Good". But again that only works if you accept unquestioningly that morality is indeed his rules, and not man's with god as no more moral/immoral than the trees, the animals, the stars. So if god exists, does it really follow that he handed down religion and morality? Interested in hearing everyone's thoughts about this.

PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

he gave us free will (if that's to be believed) he also (allegedly) gave us the fruit from the tree of knowledge.
that knowledge allowed us to see the bad (evil) in ourselves as well as the good.
he (allegedly) gave us the devil, a name which transmutes to d. evil to easily for evil not to have been derived from his name in conjunction with Christianity. he also (allegedly) gave us hell and purgatory which i refuse to recognise as the actions of a good and kind
god. if we look on people like manson, bundy and other psychopaths as evil then evil was of his invention. he' showed it to us, gave it to us. (allegedly) the same as he did with all the vices and sins a man could commit. they were his presents to us his creation. how fuckin evil is that. it's like giving a child candy and saying "if you eat that you'll rot in hell." which begs the question;
would a non evil god send all those innocent kids who haven't been baptised in his name to purgatory should they die young?
all those children who have no idea who god is. whose parents have no idea who god is?

he's evil and he's also female

It's now clear you're talking exclusively about the Christian god mythology, complete with holy trinity, baptism, hell and purgatory brought to you by people. Good luck with that.

When I referred to 'rules' earlier I wasn't talking about morality. The rules are what scientists look for when they observe and experiment. I suspect that calling the attraction between two massive bodies 'evil' will get you kicked out of the scientific community.

the opening post talks about the christian god, i'm going with the flow.

it says, god is evil, mad made or otherwise to paraphrase the post. i don't believe in god per say but if he did indeed exist i'd go with him, it etc being evil. i'd also feel the same about Allah and Buddha should they exist. brought to us by people, i agree but i'm talking as if there does indeed exist a god of one religion of another. and we have no proof god doesn't exist apart from good ole common sense. as for the rules of science, they have yet to disprove the existence of any god, let alone the Judaeo–Christian god called Jehovah or Jesus. they have to discover earthly matter in it's full extent so how they can prove or disprove a god is beyond me and them.

I didn't say God was invented by people -- just the mythology. The embellishments on the mythology can be good or evil, depending on the results in the real world. I don't think God can be justifiably blamed for this. What if God set everything in motion with a single act of creation and did nothing more to interfere? To curse him for not creating something more to our liking seems pretty small-minded.
